Albuquerque, NM
We arrived in Albuquerque on the afternoon of April 28th. The wind had blowed so hard all day and into the night it was hard to sleep with the motor home shaking, but we managed to get a few winks in. The next morning we went to see the Acoma Pueblo. It was an ancient Indian reservation. They have no electricity and no indoor plumbing. They still live as their ancestors did hundreds of years ago. Here are some pictures of their houses. We were not allowed to take pictures inside the church or of the cemetery as these are sacred places.
This is the outside of the church
The scenery around the pueblo was beautiful. I kept picturing cowboys riding through. I guess I watch too many westerns!
On the way to Albuquerque, New Mexico
We left Amarillo on April 28th heading for Albuquerque, NM. I had picked up a brochure on a place on Rt. 66 called Midpoint Cafe and wanted to stop. It has been there in business since the "Mother Road's" heyday. The grill was closed for updating but we were able to have a piece of their famous "ugly crust pie". We had the chocolate peanut butter and man was it good!
They named this place Midpoint Cafe because it is the exact amount of miles from here to Chicago and here to Los Angeles.

Palo Duro Canyon
Palo Duro Canyon was beautiful! It is the first canyon we have ever seen and we were in amazement and awe!! The weather was nice and we were able to drive through it with the top down on the car making it easier for us to see the scenery. We also took a 4 mile hike in the canyon.
We went to see the Cadillac Ranch. I know it is just a bunch of cars sticking up out of the ground but to us it was pretty cool! And obviously from all the signatures on them a lot of other folks think so too.

Amarillo, Texas
We left NC after spending 3 1/2 months there working and visiting with family, on April 22. We were heading west, farther west than we've ever been to date. It was an exciting moment when we turned that key! Our first real stop (other than overnight at Wally World) was Amarillo, Texas. We had seen the Big Texan Steak Ranch on The Travel Channel and being the carnivore I am we had to go! It was great!
